English-Ivorian defender Marc Guehi turns down Crustal Palace contract extension offer
England international of Ivory Coast descent Marc Guehi has decided to turn down any talks regarding a new contract from Premier League club, Crystal Palace after his move to Liverpool fell through.
Guehi had undergone a successful medical on transfer deadline day to join Liverpool, only for the Eagles to block the move last-minute.
Liverpool submitted a 35 million pounds offer to capture Guehi, but Palace were reluctant to sanction a move for the defender after failing to land a replacement on time.
With his current contract expiring in summer 2026, the Premier League club now risk losing Guehi for free next summer, with several clubs expressing interest.
According to reports, Guehi has no intention of staying with the team for more than one more season in an attempt to clap back at coach Oliver Glasner, who, masterminded his failed move to Liverpool.
All signs point to Crystal Palace losing their captain for nothing, but the club will have time to find a replacement for the 25-year-old Englishman—just as Glasner wanted.
Per reports, Spanish football heavyweights Real Madrid and Barcelona are now showing interest in the Eagles’ captain. Starting in January, Guehi can agree a pre-contract with any club to finalize a move on July 1, but there’s no guarantee that Liverpool will be his destination.
