English-Ghanaian midfielder Kobbie Mainoo pushes for Napoli switch as Man United frustrations grow
English midfielder Kobbie Mainoo is reportedly determined to quit Manchester United for Napoli as his frustration over limited opportunities under manager Ruben Amorim reaches boiling point.
Mainoo, whose Ghanaian heritage has long attracted interest from the Black Stars, has seen his development stall at Old Trafford despite once being tipped as a cornerstone for United’s future.
The 20-year-old academy graduate feels sidelined, with Amorim reluctant to give him starts despite United’s struggles this season.
According to reports from the Daily Mail, Mainoo has now set his sights on a move to Serie A champions Napoli, who are closely monitoring his situation.
The youngster is said to be inspired by the success of former United teammate Scott McTominay and striker Rasmus Højlund, both of whom flourished after moving abroad.
Mainoo has only started 12 of the 33 Premier League matches played under Amorim, a statistic that has fueled his dissatisfaction.
His lack of minutes also cost him a place in England manager Thomas Tuchel’s most recent squad, weakening his international prospects. Sources suggest he has no realistic pathway back into the Three Lions setup if his situation at United persists.
Despite earlier links to Real Madrid, Napoli have emerged as the most concrete option, with talks expected to intensify over the next two transfer windows.
Mainoo’s current deal with United runs until 2027, but he is open to either a loan or a permanent switch as he seeks regular football at the highest level.
For United, losing one of their brightest homegrown prospects would be another setback in what has already been a turbulent period under Amorim.
