Paris Maghoma could soon be seen in the colours of the Democratic Republic of Congo, according to his father, who has publicly expressed the midfielder’s willingness to answer a call from the national team should it arrive.
Speaking during a livestream on social media, Edmond Maghoma sought to clear the air regarding his son’s international future, signalling that the door remains firmly open for the Brentford player to represent the Leopards.
“If Paris is called up, he will respond favorably to the call for selection. But so far, he hasn’t been called up,” Edmond Maghoma said, putting to rest speculation about any reluctance from the family to embrace a potential switch to the DRC national team setup.
The remarks from Maghoma’s father appear to reflect a positive stance on a future collaboration with the Congolese Football Federation, while subtly placing the ball in their court.
It also refutes previous rumours suggesting a lack of interest from the player or his camp, reinforcing the notion that the family is open to international representation with DRC, pending official outreach.
Paris Maghoma, born in London on 8 May 2001, is currently contracted to Premier League side Brentford.
He plays as a central midfielder and has come through the ranks of English football, having been developed at Tottenham Hotspur before making the switch to Brentford in 2020.
Initially signing with the club’s B team, he has since earned promotion to the senior squad.
Though his early international career has been with England, Maghoma remains eligible to switch allegiances due to his Congolese heritage.
He has featured for the Three Lions at multiple youth levels, including U15, U16, U18, U19, and U20—evidence of his strong footballing pedigree and the high expectations surrounding his development.
The connection to Congolese football runs deep in the family.
Paris is the younger brother of Jacques Maghoma, a former Congo international and a familiar figure among Leopards supporters.
This legacy may play a role in influencing the younger Maghoma’s decision, as calls for fresh talent to bolster the national squad continue to grow louder.
For now, the final decision lies with the Congolese Football Federation.
With the player’s openness confirmed by his father, the next move is likely to come from Kinshasa, should they choose to bring the 23-year-old into the fold.
