English-born Ghanaian defender Josh Acheampong is expected to stay at Chelsea after agreeing a new deal with the club.
Acheampong, whose current expires in the summer of 2026 has agreed to extend his stay for five years keeping him at the club until 2029.
The 18-year-old has an agreement in principle over a new contract, with the two parties now finalizing paperwork and the fine details of the deal.
The talented defender was frozen for close to three-months due to his unwillingness to extend his contract and was not selected to play for either the youth teams or the senior team.
But the recent development ends the freezing out period for Acheampong, who emerged as top transfer target for Real Madrid.
Acheampong is poised to start against Shamrock Rovers in Thursday’s Conference League fixture, and could get further chances to play at right-back as Reece James continues to struggle with persistent hamstring injuries.
The England Under-20 international had previously been linked with Bayern Munich, Real Madrid and Paris Saint-Germain.
