Samal Bangura has chosen to represent Sierra Leone at the international level, earning a call-up to the country’s Under-20 squad for an upcoming friendly tournament in Morocco.
The 17-year-old midfielder, currently playing for Tottenham Hotspur’s Under-18 team, will feature in matches against Ghana, Saudi Arabia, and Morocco at the Mohammed VI Football Complex.
A Family Legacy Continues
Bangura, the son of former Watford and Sierra Leone international Al Bangura, has followed in his father’s footsteps by committing to the West African nation.
His inclusion in the squad marks his first international opportunity at the youth level, reflecting his rapid development within the Tottenham academy.
Born and raised in England, the talented teenager has been making steady progress through the Spurs ranks. Primarily a central midfielder, he is also capable of operating as a right-back.
His versatility and technical ability have made him a key player for Tottenham’s Under-18 side.
Rising Through the Ranks
Bangura has been in impressive form for Spurs’ youth team, starting five of their last six Under-18 Premier League fixtures. Most recently, he showcased his attacking threat by registering a goal and an assist in a 4-0 victory over Norwich City.
His performances have not gone unnoticed, earning him an opportunity to test himself on the international stage.
The friendly tournament in Morocco will serve as preparation for Sierra Leone ahead of next month’s Under-20 Africa Cup of Nations.
As Bangura integrates into the squad, he will be aiming to make a strong impression and solidify his place within the national setup.
For Sierra Leone, securing the commitment of a promising young talent with English academy experience is a significant boost, potentially strengthening their future midfield options.
Congratulations to Samal Bangura, who has been called up to represent Sierra Leone’s U20s for the first time! 👏
Enjoy it Sam! 🤍
