England remain the dominant force in European club football, but Spain are continuing to close the gap at the top of UEFA’s rankings.
According to Spanish newspaper MARCA, England lead the latest association standings with 119.519 points. Italy are second on 99.946, while Spain occupy third place with 97.046.
England’s position reflects the sustained collective success of their clubs over recent seasons. However, Spain’s performances this season underline their continued strength and ensure the contest at the top remains competitive.
Spain are currently second in the season coefficient rankings with 22.093 points. Only England are ahead, having built a sizeable lead with 28.680 points.
The Spanish clubs have continued to accumulate points consistently, finishing ahead of several other major leagues. Germany have 21.785 points, Portugal 20.500 and Italy 19.
The number of clubs still involved in European competition also highlights the depth of Spain’s performance. Eight Spanish clubs remain in continental tournaments, with only England having more representatives, on nine.
Bayern Munich move above Real Madrid
The club rankings have also seen a change at the summit. Real Madrid, who have traditionally been one of the leading reference points in European football, are now second with 144.500 points.
Bayern Munich top the standings with 147.500 points, while Paris Saint-Germain are third on 132 points.
The picture is different when the focus is limited to results from the most recent season. Arsenal lead the annual rankings with 44 points, followed by Bayern Munich on 39.250 and Paris Saint-Germain on 37.500.
Barcelona are fifth with 30 points and are the highest-ranked Spanish club in that particular table.
The rankings underline the continuing influence of the Premier League, whose clubs’ strength and depth have enabled England to establish a clear advantage over their European rivals.
Spain, however, remain the closest challenger. Their total of eight clubs still competing in Europe, combined with their second-place position in the season coefficient standings, shows that the gap is not widening without resistance.
