Energie Cottbus strengthen squad with signing of German-Congolese striker Christian Kinsombi
Energie Cottbus have made their first move ahead of the new 2. Bundesliga season, signing attacking midfielder Christian Kinsombi on a free transfer from Hansa Rostock.
The newly promoted club are aiming to build a competitive squad for the challenges of Germany’s second tier, with Kinsombi expected to play a key role.
Wollitz Backs Versatile Midfield Option
Head coach Claus-Dieter Wollitz praised the signing, highlighting Kinsombi’s pace, versatility, and experience at the 2. Bundesliga level.
He stressed that the 26-year-old fits well into Cottbus’ playing philosophy and brings valuable experience that will help the squad adapt quickly after promotion.
Club Sees Long-Term Value in Transfer
Squad planner Maniyel Nergiz also expressed confidence in the deal, noting that Kinsombi was a highly sought-after player before choosing Cottbus.
He added that the club presented a clear sporting project that convinced the midfielder to make the move.
Experience From Bundesliga 2 and 3
Kinsombi arrives with significant experience, having played 68 matches in the 2. Bundesliga and 110 appearances in the 3. Liga during his career.
During his time with Hansa Rostock, he spent three seasons at the club, contributing nine goals and five assists in the second division.
His arrival is expected to provide Energie Cottbus with both quality and leadership as they prepare for life back in the 2. Bundesliga.
