Egyptian journalist Khaled El-Ghandour criticises Angolan forward Chico Banza

Chico Banza, the international star of Zamalek, revealed the real reason for his delayed return to Cairo and missing recent training sessions.

In a heartfelt statement on Instagram, he clarified that his absence was due to the death of his brother and that he had been officially permitted by the club to be away.

“I want to explain to Zamalek fans that my delay was because I lost my brother. I received official permission from the club, and I’m surprised by the rumors on social media,” wrote Banza.

He appealed for fans’ support in his time of loss, adding, “I ask Zamalek fans to pray for my brother’s soul and thank everyone who’s stood with me.” This put an end to speculation regarding possible disciplinary actions.

A team source confirmed that Banza’s delay had been communicated to the club, and the coaching staff expected his return following coordination.

Zamalek’s coach, Ahmed Abdel Raouf, is monitoring Banza’s arrival but for now, Banza will miss the upcoming match against Zambia’s Zesco United in the Confederation Cup group stage, scheduled for Sunday at Cairo International Stadium.
