Emmanuel Rivière has emerged as an unexpected star for AS Monaco, scoring a hat-trick against Montpellier and accumulating four goals since the beginning of the championship. In an interview with La Dépêche du Midi, the Martinican striker expressed his thoughts on his remarkable start to the season.
“Surprising for you, surely. But I believe in myself. My family believes in me. I did a very good preparation,” he explained. Rivière attributed his success to the hard work he put in during the preseason, leading the coach to position him as the second striker. He acknowledged that the real challenges are still ahead but emphasized his enjoyment of the game.
Rivière also mentioned his improved physical condition, stating, “I no longer have pain in my ankle; the club doctors healed me well last season.” Expressing his delight in being part of a prestigious club with star players, he highlighted the learning experience from his more experienced teammates. In particular, he praised Falcao as a top-notch striker, stating, “There is nothing better in the world. I learn a lot from him.”
Despite not being initially considered a potential starter due to the club’s numerous summer signings, Rivière currently leads the Ligue 1 scoring chart with four goals.
