Emmanuel Eboué reveals shock financial and agent ordeal that ended his career
Former Arsenal and Ivory Coast defender Emmanuel Eboué has opened up about the painful circumstances that brought his professional football career to an abrupt end, revealing how disputes with his agent and FIFA sanctions contributed to his exit from the game.
In a candid account, the 41-year-old former right-back claimed he was financially exploited and left in distress after a breakdown in his relationship with his representative.
“My agent didn’t do anything for me. At the end they wanted me to give them 1 million euros. My ex-agent went to FIFA, and then FIFA banned me for one year,” Eboué said, describing a situation he believes played a major role in derailing his career.
Eboué, who enjoyed a successful spell at Arsenal and later played for Galatasaray, said the fallout marked a turning point that effectively brought his time in professional football to an end.
Once a fan favourite in North London, Eboué’s story has since become one of the more sobering reminders of the off-pitch struggles some players face despite high-profile careers at the top level.
His revelations add to growing discussions around player representation, financial safeguarding, and the pressures footballers endure beyond the pitch.
