Emmanuel Airoboma joins Burnley U21 as Liverpool academy spell ends
England-Nigeria centre-back Emmanuel Airoboma has joined Burnley U21 from Liverpool U21 on a free transfer, completing a move that keeps the 19-year-old in Premier League 2.
Airoboma’s switch was completed on 21 August 2026, with the defender signing a contract with Burnley U21 until 30 June 2027. The move brings an end to his time with Liverpool’s academy after he progressed through the club’s youth structure.
Born in Liverpool on 15 May 2007, Airoboma represents both England and Nigeria by nationality. He plays primarily as a centre-back and joins a Burnley U21 side competing in Premier League 2.
The defender moved from Liverpool’s youth team into the club’s under-18 side in July 2023 before stepping up to Liverpool U21 two years later. His recorded appearances include 22 matches in the Under-18 Premier League, five in the UEFA Youth League and two in Premier League 2.
Airoboma played 1,610 minutes in the Under-18 Premier League and 396 minutes in the UEFA Youth League. His two Premier League 2 appearances amounted to 11 minutes, completing his recorded competitive experience before the move to Burnley.
The transfer represents a change of club but not of league, with both Liverpool U21 and Burnley U21 competing in Premier League 2. Airoboma therefore moves directly into another development environment after coming through Liverpool’s youth ranks.
His departure follows a three-year progression at Liverpool, beginning with the club’s youth setup, continuing through the under-18 team and culminating in a place with the under-21 squad. He now continues his career at Burnley at the age of 19.
Burnley U21 have secured Airoboma’s arrival without a transfer fee, and the agreement runs through the end of June 2027. The move was completed on 21 August 2026.
