Former Togo international Emmanuel Adebayor has taken a swipe at Jamie Carragher for disrespecting Egyptian legend Mohammed Salah.
The former England defender recently criticized the former Africa Footballer of the Year over his public outburst following his bench warming role at Liverpool.
Amid Liverpool struggles, coach Arne Slot relegated the Egyptian to the bench in three consecutive games. Frustrated by his bench warming role, Salah took to the media, where he disclosed a break in relationship with the coach.
The Egyptian international was dropped from the team for the Champions League clash against Inter Milan before making a return for team’s last game before departing for AFCON.
However, the former Arsenal striker has jumped to the defense of Salah, while criticizing Carragher for disrespecting the African star.
“I heard what Jamie Carragher said about Mo Salah, and to be honest, I think it’s incredibly disrespectful. He has been consistent for seven or eight years. To talk about him as if he is a finished player or a problem for the team is wrong.
Mo Salah is an African icon, but he is also a global football icon. When you have a player like that, you cherish him. Carragher was a great defender, and he knows how hard it is to play against a player like Salah. To sit in a studio and say these things… it feels like he’s forgotten what it’s like on the pitch.
You never see Salah complaining. He works hard, he scores goals, and he stays fit. What more do you want? If he were English, they would be building a statue for him every week. Because he is Salah, and because he is African, people find it easy to criticize him,” he told BeanymanSports.
