Emmanuel Adebayor Willing to Take Pay Cut to Stay at Tottenham
London — Emmanuel Adebayor has expressed a strong desire to remain at Tottenham Hotspur, even if it means accepting a significant pay cut, according to reports from The Standard.
Despite increasing interest from AS Monaco, the Togolese striker, who has been at Spurs for three years, is keen to continue his career at White Hart Lane. Adebayor currently earns around £170,000 per week, a figure partly subsidized by his former club Manchester City. However, with his contract clause involving City having expired, his weekly wage is expected to drop to approximately £90,000 if he stays for the remaining two years on his deal.
This financial adjustment appears not to concern Adebayor, who has publicly emphasized his contentment living in London with his family. The former Arsenal and Manchester City forward, who captains the Togolese national team, recently revealed in an interview with Fabrice Muamba that his motivation is driven by passion for football rather than monetary gain. “If it were about money, I would be playing in countries that pay more,” he stated.
Nevertheless, the final decision on Adebayor’s future lies with new Spurs manager Mauricio Pochettino, who will determine whether the striker fits into his plans. Meanwhile, club chairman Daniel Levy reportedly would not object to a transfer, with a proposed fee of around £5 million on the table. Adebayor, now 30, is entering the latter stages of his career, which adds to Spurs’ considerations about his long-term role.
As Tottenham weigh their options, Adebayor’s commitment to the club and willingness to adjust his salary underscore his dedication to the team and the city he calls home.
