The Adebayor saga at Tottenham continues with reports revealing that the player has requested the termination of his contract for £1 million. This comes as a surprise since Adebayor had previously expressed his desire to stay at the London club. The suggested amount corresponds to three months’ salary for the Togolese striker.
Adebayor still has two years left on his contract with Spurs, but currently faces stiff competition for a place in the squad. Upon his return from leave with the Togo national team, he is expected to join the Tottenham reserves. However, manager Andre Villas Boas has not ruled out the possibility of reintegrating him into the first-team squad. Villas Boas mentioned that there were opportunities for Adebayor to leave, but he wasn’t interested in those clubs, and there is a chance of seeing him back in the group soon.
Despite his current situation, Queens Park Rangers (QPR), where his friend Benoit Assou-Ekotto is playing, is reportedly closely monitoring Adebayor. A loan move is considered a possibility. Adebayor had a relatively modest goal-scoring record last season, netting 5 goals in 25 Premier League games.
