Chelsea goalkeeper Emiliano Martinez says he expects to return within a few weeks after undergoing surgery following an injury against Everton.
Martinez was forced off during Chelsea’s 2-0 win at Everton in the seventh round of the Premier League after a heavy collision with Everton defender Jarrad Branthwaite.
The Argentina international fell to the ground following the impact and required treatment from the medical staff before leaving the pitch. He was conscious as he was taken off.
Martinez later confirmed on Instagram that the operation had gone well.
“Thank you everyone for your messages. The surgery went well,” he wrote.
“The most important thing is that we won and kept a clean sheet.”
He added: “I will be back in a few weeks.”
Chelsea secured victory through a 2-0 result at Everton’s ground, while Martinez’s injury overshadowed his early departure from the match.
