Ivorian striker Elye Wahi faces uncertain future after Nice loan spell

Elye Wahi’s future remains uncertain despite a productive loan spell at OGC Nice, with the striker facing an unclear path as the end of the season approaches.

The 23-year-old forward made a strong impression during his short-term move to the French side, contributing significantly on the pitch even as the club struggled to improve its position, currently sitting 15th in the league table.

His performances quickly earned the approval of both supporters and club officials, underlining his impact despite the team’s overall difficulties.

With his loan deal nearing its conclusion, attention has turned to what comes next. Wahi has already indicated his preference to continue his stay on the French Riviera, a stance that aligns with Nice’s own reported interest in keeping him, according to L’Équipe.

However, turning that intention into a permanent agreement appears complicated.

Eintracht Frankfurt, who signed the striker from Marseille in January 2025 for €26 million, are not prepared to part with him easily.

The German club, where Wahi remains under contract until June 2030, are keen to capitalise on his current form and are considering a sale that would recoup a similar fee to their initial investment.

Such a valuation places him beyond Nice’s financial reach, making a permanent transfer unlikely under current conditions.

Instead, the French club would favour extending his stay through another loan agreement, though there is no indication that Frankfurt would accept such terms.

As a result, the situation remains finely balanced. While both the player and Nice may be open to continuing their relationship, financial realities and Frankfurt’s stance could ultimately dictate the outcome.

A return to Germany is a possibility, but interest from other clubs could further complicate matters as the transfer window approaches.

The Montpellier-trained forward has made 15 appearances in all competitions for Nice, scoring seven goals and providing two assists.

Currently valued at €12 million on Transfermarkt, he earns an annual salary of €1,820,000 in Germany.

With no clear resolution in sight, Wahi’s future is expected to be one of the key transfer stories to watch in the coming weeks.
