Elye Wahi faces uncertain future at Marseille: January exit looms

Elye Wahi, the 21-year-old striker of Ivorian descent, may soon bid farewell to Olympique Marseille just months after his high-profile €25m move.

Born on January 2, 2003, in Courcouronnes, Essonne, Wahi dazzled at Montpellier HSC but has struggled to replicate that form at both RC Lens and now Marseille.

Wahi’s stint at the Vélodrome has been underwhelming, with just two goals in 11 appearances. His inability to live up to expectations has relegated him behind Neal Maupay, a summer signing expected to serve as backup, in the pecking order. Marseille, seeking a replacement for Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang, gambled on Wahi’s potential, but the bet has yet to pay off.

According to La Provence, Wahi’s performances in the coming weeks will be crucial to determining his future. Should he fail to justify the club’s investment, Marseille may cut their losses and offload him in the January transfer window. Wahi, whose contract runs until 2029, risks following fellow summer recruit Lilian Brassier out the door unless he elevates his game.

For Wahi, the clock is ticking.
