With his contract at Montpellier set to expire in 2020, Ellyes Skhiri has yet to agree to an extension, and it appears a move abroad may be on the horizon. The 23-year-old midfielder, a product of the MHSC youth academy, is reportedly drawing strong interest from Italy.
Fiorentina has been tracking Skhiri for several seasons, and the Italian club is now making a renewed push. According to France Football, La Viola is prepared to offer €10 million to secure the services of the Montpellier midfielder. Skhiri, who made his Ligue 1 debut in 2015 and established himself as a regular starter in 2016, seems open to the prospect of a new challenge away from his native Hérault.
This is not Fiorentina’s first attempt to sign the Tunisian international. Back in January 2017, the club had already tried to bring him to Italy. Now with 14 caps for the Tunisian national team, Skhiri is reportedly intrigued by the opportunity to test himself in Serie A, taking the next step in his career across the Alps.
A move to Fiorentina would represent a significant milestone for the Montpellier academy graduate, offering exposure to one of Europe’s top leagues while providing Montpellier with a notable transfer fee for one of their homegrown talents.
