Ellyes Skhiri, the Tunisia international midfielder currently at Eintracht Frankfurt, is being linked with a move to Bundesliga rivals Mainz in the latest twist of Germany’s summer transfer market.

The 31-year-old defensive midfielder is under contract at Frankfurt until 30 June 2027, but Mainz are exploring the possibility of bringing him to the Mewa Arena as they look to strengthen the spine of their side. Any negotiations are likely to be shaped by Skhiri’s estimated value of around €5 million, a figure that underlines both his experience and established status in the league.

Skhiri, who also holds French nationality, has built his reputation in Germany as a disciplined presence at the base of midfield, offering tactical security and positional structure in front of the back line. His profile makes him an obvious target for a Mainz team seeking greater stability without the ball and more control in transitions.

A move between two Bundesliga clubs would keep Skhiri in familiar surroundings, while providing Mainz with a player accustomed to the tempo and tactical demands of the division. For Frankfurt, interest from a domestic rival poses a decision over whether to cash in on an experienced squad member with two years still to run on his deal, or to retain him as part of their medium-term core.

With the transfer window active and Skhiri securely tied to Frankfurt until 2027, Mainz would likely need to present a compelling financial and sporting package to turn the rumour into a formal bid.
