Elisha Owusu leaves Auxerre for Erzurumspor
Ghanaian midfielder Elisha Owusu has left AJ Auxerre and completed a move to Turkish side Erzurumspor, who have earned promotion to the country’s top division.
Auxerre officially announced the transfer on Wednesday, confirming that the deal will bring the French club €1 million.
Owusu arrived at Auxerre in January 2023 and quickly became a dependable presence in midfield. During his spell in Burgundy, the 28-year-old made 93 appearances, scoring twice. Both goals were memorable, coming in victories over Troyes and Brest.
The Ghana international has also represented his country at the last two World Cups, adding valuable international experience to his club career. His decision to move to Turkey now gives him the opportunity to begin a fresh challenge with a newly promoted team.
Auxerre thanked the midfielder for his commitment and recognised the contribution he made during more than three years with the club. In its farewell message, the French side said: “Arrived in January 2023, Elisha Owusu leaves AJA. The Ghanaian midfielder has chosen to take on a new challenge and has joined Erzurumspor, promoted to the Turkish first division. (…) Thank you for everything Elish, and we wish you all the best for the future!”
Erzurumspor will hope Owusu’s experience can help them establish themselves in Turkey’s top flight.
