Mali has been drawn into Group B alongside Algeria, a 2014 World Cup participant, and Ethiopia for the qualifiers for the African Cup of Nations, Morocco 2015. The final team in the group will be determined later.
Sigamary Diarra, midfielder for the Mali national team, believes that Mali has the potential to perform better in the upcoming tournament. “Our main opponent will be ourselves,” Diarra stated in an interview with RFI. “Compared to the last two AFCON tournaments where we finished third, we must show improvement. Our goal is to qualify for AFCON 2015 and reach the final to demonstrate progress. However, we must navigate through very challenging matches to reach Morocco.”
While acknowledging the strength of all the teams in the group, Diarra emphasized that Algeria would pose the toughest challenge. “Algeria will undoubtedly be the most formidable team to face. However, in African football, every match is challenging, whether it’s against Ethiopia or any other team,” he added.
