Eliesse Ben Seghir suffers thigh injury and is out temporarily for Bayer Leverkusen
Bayer Leverkusen will have to make do without Eliesse Ben Seghir for the time being after the young attacker picked up a muscular injury in his right thigh.
The Bundesliga club confirmed the setback on Monday but did not specify how long he is expected to be out.
Ben Seghir’s absence became apparent at the weekend when he missed the 7-0 friendly win over Sportfreunde Baumberg. Initially pencilled in for the starting XI, the 21‑year‑old reported muscular problems shortly before kick‑off, prompting the medical staff and head coach Carles Martínez to take him out of the team.
Martinez later explained that the decision was purely precautionary and that the club did not want to take any risks with a player of his profile.
A subsequent MRI scan on Sunday confirmed the thigh injury, meaning Leverkusen must now proceed without the Moroccan offensive talent until he has fully recovered.
For now, there is no concrete timetable for his return to full training, and the focus will be on careful rehabilitation rather than rushing him back. Both club and fans will hope that this latest issue is only a brief interruption in his development and that he can soon show the potential that convinced Leverkusen to invest in him.
