Eliesse Ben Seghir out for two to three weeks at Bayer Leverkusen

Bayer Leverkusen have received clearer news on Eliesse Ben Seghir’s injury layoff, with the young attacker expected to miss around two to three weeks due to a muscle problem in his right thigh.

The diagnosis, reported by Bild, confirms he will be absent for a key stretch of pre-season as Carles Martinez shapes his squad for the new campaign.

Ben Seghir will sit out several full training sessions but is still scheduled to travel with the team to their camp in Blankenhain from 1 to 7 August. There, he is set to follow an individual rehabilitation and conditioning programme rather than taking part in full-contact work with the group.

Sporting director Simon Rolfes voiced his disappointment at the timing: “It’s a real shame for Eliesse that he got injured. He had a great start to the first week. Now we hope he can return as soon as possible and build up his fitness at the same time.”

The setback is particularly bitter for the 21-year-old Moroccan, who endured a mixed first season in Leverkusen and was eager to impress the new head coach. The injury now robs him of valuable time to stake his claim in a competitive attacking department.
