Marseille (OM) suffered a significant setback with a 1-4 defeat against Valenciennes, the first defeat of the season. Coach Elie Baup commented on the performance:
“There is both much and little to say. The first quarter of an hour, our opponent really suffocated us. We haven’t managed to put anything in place. We didn’t manage to come back, and after that, it continued. We started the match very badly in all areas.
While we had only conceded one goal in six matches, conceding four goals in a single match is obviously very heavy. We must look forward to the future without obscuring what happened in these first seven matches. Nothing worked. Everything was a bit upside down. There is not this dimension of sufficiency. Our opponent pressed us, took all the balls from us. In the air sector, we were also dominated. At 3-0 at half-time, it’s very complicated; it left its mark on the group. The verdict this evening is heavy, brutal, consequential. We will explain, discuss, work. We shouldn’t dwell on a heavy defeat like that. We must quickly think about what awaits us and get back to the right place.”
