Elias Mokwana says joining Kaizer Chiefs fulfils a long-held ambition, having supported the club since childhood and previously come close to moving to Naturena.
The 27-year-old was unveiled as a new Amakhosi player this week after ending his association with Esperance Sportive de Tunis by mutual agreement earlier in the year.
Mokwana joined Kaizer Chiefs as a free agent and revealed that a move to the club had been discussed before he left South Africa for Tunisia.
“I grew up supporting Amakhosi,” he told the club’s media team.
“I first heard that they were interested in me when I was at Sekhukhune. Instead of going to Esperance, I was supposed to come here, but unfortunately some obstacles prevented it from happening at the time.”
The winger, who has lost his place in the national team, said he is determined to help Kaizer Chiefs challenge for silverware.
“For me, it is a dream come true. I have always wanted to prove myself in this team and to play a part in bringing some trophies to the Club,” he added.
Mokwana said he immediately shared the news of his move with his mother after learning it had been completed.
“I was sitting with my sisters, and the first thing I did was phone my mother to share the good news with her,” he said.
“I can’t explain the feeling exactly. I’m excited. It’s a very nice feeling.
“This is a good place with good people, and I am very happy to be here.”
