EL SHAARAWY DELIGHTED WITH AZZURRI RETURN: “A VERY IMPORTANT WEEK”
While much of the attention around Italy’s national team has focused on Mario Balotelli’s ongoing struggles, another AC Milan striker is quietly enjoying a more positive turn in his international career. Stephan El Shaarawy, returning to the Squadra Azzurra setup, made a late appearance in the 1-1 draw against Croatia in the Euro 2016 qualifiers and is savoring the moment.
Substituting in for Ciro Immobile, the “Pharaoh” marked his first cap in months after enduring injuries and inconsistency at club level. Clearly emotional, El Shaarawy shared his joy on Instagram:
“It was a very important week. Happy to be back on the pitch with the national team. Now, my mind is on the derby [against Inter Milan].”
El Shaarawy is also expected to feature in Italy’s upcoming friendly against Albania on Tuesday — another chance to convince coach Antonio Conte of his value ahead of Euro 2016.
As Balotelli faces questions over attitude and commitment, El Shaarawy’s return offers a reminder of the fresh talent Italy still has to count on — hungry, focused, and ready to contribute.
