El Ouahdi transfer takes shape as Hamburger SV clear final medical hurdle

Zakaria El Ouahdi is nearing a move from KRC Genk to Hamburger SV after successfully completing the second part of his medical, according to transfer specialist Sacha Tavolieri.

The 24-year-old right-back had previously been strongly linked with PSV, but Hamburger SV now appear to be close to securing his signature. His successful medical represents another significant step towards the end of one of the longer-running transfer sagas surrounding KRC Genk.

Hamburger SV will initially pay €8m for the Morocco international. The overall value of the deal could rise to €12m if the agreed bonuses are triggered.

KRC Genk have also negotiated a substantial percentage of any future sale involving El Ouahdi. That arrangement means the Belgian club could receive a significant additional amount if the defender is transferred again in the future.

El Ouahdi joined KRC Genk from RWDM at the beginning of 2024 and quickly established himself as an important player. During his time with the club, he made 116 appearances and delivered an impressive attacking contribution for a full-back.

He scored 20 goals and provided 13 assists across those matches, underlining the influence he developed at KRC Genk since arriving from RWDM.

The move to Hamburger SV would therefore bring an end to El Ouahdi’s spell in Belgium, while giving KRC Genk a sizeable initial fee and the possibility of further financial benefit through the future-sale clause.

For El Ouahdi, the transfer follows a period in which his performances for KRC Genk attracted interest from several clubs, including PSV. However, it is Hamburger SV who have moved closest to completing the deal after the Moroccan international passed the second stage of his medical.

The transfer remains centred on the completion of the final formalities, but the latest medical update indicates that the switch to Hamburger SV is close.
