El Mokawloon El Arab complete signing of Mauritanian forward Idrissa Thiam
El Mokawloon El Arab have completed the signing of Mauritanian forward Idrissa Thiam, adding the 25-year-old to their squad for the new season.
The Egyptian club officially announced the deal on Thursday, 6 August 2026, after an agreement had previously been reached to bring Thiam to the team.
Thiam joins El Mokawloon El Arab after spending his most recent spell with Muaither SC, who compete in the second tier of the Qatar league. The Mauritanian enjoyed an impressive scoring record during his time with the Qatari side.
He made 27 appearances for Muaither SC, scoring 21 goals and providing 10 assists. Those figures were central to El Mokawloon El Arab’s decision to complete the move, with the club now confirming the transfer after the initial agreement had been reported.
Thiam becomes the latest addition to a squad undergoing several changes. El Mokawloon El Arab had earlier announced the signing of Mohamed Ammar from Ismaily, while Shady Hussein, Mohamed Sandouka, Youssef Safina, Anas Bani Ouda, Sherif Reda and Mido Gaber have also joined the club.
The club will continue to be managed by Samy Komsan for another season. Komsan took charge during the second half of the previous campaign and has been retained as the team prepares for the next phase of its development.
The 50-year-old manager led El Mokawloon El Arab in 32 matches across all competitions. During that run, the team recorded 10 wins, 16 draws and six defeats.
El Mokawloon El Arab finished last season seventh in the relegation group, collecting 38 points. The addition of Thiam gives Komsan another attacking option as the club looks to improve on that position.
The forward’s record in Qatar will raise expectations around his contribution in Egypt. His 21 goals in 27 appearances, together with 10 assists, make him one of the most notable arrivals among the club’s recent signings.
His move also completes a deal that had been indicated earlier, with Thursday’s announcement confirming that the agreement between the player and El Mokawloon El Arab had been finalised. The club has now formally added the Mauritanian to a recruitment drive that has included several domestic arrivals.
With Komsan staying in charge and a number of new players entering the squad, El Mokawloon El Arab will begin the new campaign with a reshaped group. Thiam will be expected to provide attacking output following his prolific spell with Muaither SC, while the club aims to build on its 38-point return from last season.
