French-Ivorian talent El-Hadj Mory Koné turns professional at Clermont

El-Hadj Mory Koné has signed his first professional contract with Clermont Foot 63, committing his future to the Ligue 2 side until 2029.

The 19-year-old, who progressed through Clermont’s academy, has been rewarded for his development after breaking into the first-team set-up earlier this year.

The club confirmed the agreement on its official website, marking a significant milestone in the midfielder’s career.

Born in Étampes on 4 May 2006, Koné began playing football at FC Étampes before moving to FC Fleury 91. He later joined Clermont, where he continued his progression through the youth ranks.

A versatile player capable of operating at left-back or in midfield, he has adapted quickly to senior football and has featured regularly with the first team since January.

Speaking about signing his first professional deal, Koné expressed both pride and determination.

“I’m happy to see that the hard work is paying off. Signing with my boyhood club was a real goal, and I’m proud to have achieved it.

Seeing other players from the 2023 Gambardella Cup generation sign professional contracts is motivating and makes me want to do the same. Now I have to keep working; this is just one step.”

The French-Ivorian midfielder has already made an impression at senior level. This season, he has started six matches and contributed three assists, underlining his growing influence within the squad.

Having established himself within the system, Koné will now continue his development as a professional in Ligue 2, aiming to build on his early progress and secure a regular role in Clermont’s long-term plans.
