Eintracht Frankfurt recruit Germany-Nigeria goalkeeper Noah Atubolu from Freiburg

Germany-Nigeria goalkeeper Noah Atubolu has joined Eintracht Frankfurt from Freiburg on a season-long loan, with the Bundesliga clubs agreeing a €1m loan fee.

The 24-year-old’s move was completed on 28 August 2026 and runs until 30 June 2027. Atubolu, who stands 1.90m tall and is right-footed, becomes part of Frankfurt’s squad for the 2026-27 campaign.

Atubolu spent his senior career with Freiburg before switching to their Bundesliga counterpart. He joined Freiburg’s first team from SC Freiburg II in July 2021, having previously progressed through the club’s youth system.

He made his way into Freiburg’s senior structure after helping SC Freiburg II win the German Regionalliga Southwest title and secure promotion to the third tier in the 2020-21 season. The following campaign, he was part of the Freiburg side that finished as German Cup runners-up.

The goalkeeper also won the German Under-19 Cup with Freiburg U19 in 2017-18. His early career began with Freiburg’s youth teams after he joined from Freiburger FC in 2015.

Atubolu has represented Germany and received the Fritz Walter Bronze Medal in 2023. He also has Nigerian nationality, but the available record lists Germany as his national team.

His arrival at Frankfurt comes with his market value listed at €25m. He joins a club competing in the Bundesliga and has also been registered for Frankfurt’s 2026-27 UEFA Conference League qualifying campaign and DFB-Pokal squad, although he has not made an appearance in either competition.

Atubolu’s loan provides Frankfurt with a goalkeeper from a Freiburg side where he had remained since moving into the senior team five years ago. His return to Freiburg is scheduled for the end of the loan on 30 June 2027.

The completed agreement sends Atubolu from Freiburg to Eintracht Frankfurt on loan for €1m until 30 June 2027.
