Eight teams secure their place at AFCON 2025 after dominant performances

Eight national teams have already confirmed their qualification for the 2025 Africa Cup of Nations (AFCON), set to take place from December 21, 2025, to January 18, 2026, in Morocco. Following the conclusion of the third and fourth matchdays of the qualifiers, these sides have guaranteed their spots, while 16 more teams will be determined in the final round of qualification matches in November.

Morocco (Group B)
As the host nation, Morocco was automatically qualified for the tournament.

However, Walid Regragui’s men have continued to impress during the qualifiers, winning all four of their matches.

Their most recent victories came against the Central African Republic, where they secured dominant 5-0 and 4-0 wins.

Morocco’s flawless campaign so far highlights the strength of the Atlas Lions as they prepare to host the competition.

Burkina Faso (Group L)
Burkina Faso sealed their spot in the tournament after two commanding wins over Burundi in October, finishing 4-1 and 2-0.

With 10 points from four matches, Brama Traoré’s side currently tops Group L, edging Senegal on goal difference.

The Stallions have shown impressive form, and with a goal difference of +7, they are marginally ahead of Senegal’s +6 in the standings.

Cameroon (Group J)
Cameroon secured their qualification for AFCON 2025 after a solid showing in the October fixtures, defeating Kenya 4-1 and 1-0.

The Indomitable Lions now lead Group J with 10 points from four matches.

Despite the relatively lower-ranked competition in their group, which includes Zimbabwe and Namibia, Cameroon’s qualification is particularly noteworthy given the internal turmoil that has plagued the team in recent months.

Algeria (Group E)
Algeria’s qualification came after two decisive victories over Togo, winning 5-1 and 1-0.

With 12 points from four matches, Vladimir Petkovic’s squad has a comfortable five-point lead over second-placed Equatorial Guinea.

The Greens have impressed throughout the qualifiers, registering a clean sheet in all their matches so far, securing their place in Morocco.

DR Congo (Group H)
DR Congo also confirmed their participation in CAN 2025 after back-to-back wins over Tanzania, finishing 1-0 and 2-0.

The Leopards have amassed 12 points, topping Group H and sitting well ahead of Guinea, who have only 6 points.

The team’s defense has been a standout, with no goals conceded so far, and the attacking prowess of Meschack Elia, who scored twice in their latest fixture, has been crucial.

Senegal (Group L)
Senegal booked their ticket to AFCON 2025 with two victories over Malawi, 4-0 and 1-0.

The Lions now have 10 points, equal with Burkina Faso, though they sit in second place due to a slightly inferior goal difference.

Under coach Pape Thiaw, Senegal will aim to overtake Burkina Faso and secure the top spot in their group in the remaining qualifiers.

Egypt (Group C)
Egypt is also through to AFCON 2025 after defeating Mauritania 2-0 and 1-0 in their latest matches.

The Pharaohs have been dominant, with 12 points from four games, 10 goals scored, and no goals conceded.

Their runner-up, Botswana, is far behind with just 6 points, and Egypt’s qualification at the top of Group C seems all but assured.

Hossam Hassan’s side will be looking to maintain their momentum in the final rounds of the qualifiers.

Mohamed Salah, Egypt

Angola (Group F)
Angola has been flawless in their campaign so far, collecting all 12 points from their matches. Their latest victories came against Niger, 2-0 and 1-0, with Zini scoring a crucial early goal in the second encounter.

With Sudan trailing on 7 points and Ghana on just 2, Angola has secured their spot at AFCON 2025, with little competition remaining for the top spot in Group F.

These eight teams will now look ahead to the final preparations for AFCON 2025, where they aim to make a significant impact on the continent’s biggest football stage.
