The Egyptian Ministry of Youth and Sports, led by Ashraf Sobhy, has once more delayed the submission of its revised Sports Law No. 71 of 2017 to the International Olympic Committee.
The move comes as government legal experts continue reviewing certain disputed clauses to ensure they align with international standards.
Originally scheduled for submission midweek, this marks the third delay by the ministry. Officials say the amendments are still under internal discussion and must first receive final Cabinet approval before being passed on to Parliament.
The IOC has been pressing for the finalized amendments and previously sent two formal requests to the ministry. It recently dismissed Egypt’s attempt to present the changes through an in-person visit by a joint delegation from the ministry and the Egyptian Olympic Committee.
Instead, the IOC insisted on reviewing a written version of the amendments and suggested a follow-up video conference with officials if needed to clarify any concerns. The process now hinges on swift agreement among Egypt’s top policymakers.
