In an exclusive interview with “Al-Masry Al-Youm,” former Portuguese coach Nelo Vingada, the ex-head coach of the Egyptian Football Association, discussed the Pharaohs’ prospects in the upcoming Africa Cup of Nations 2023.
Scheduled to participate in the tournament hosted by Ivory Coast from January 13th to February 11th, Egypt finds itself in Group 2 alongside Ghana, Mozambique, and Cape Verde.
Mohamed Salah and his teammates will kick off their quest for an eighth title against Mozambique next Sunday.
Vingada commented on the current coach, saying, “Rui Vitoria is doing a fantastic job so far.
He is very cultured and calm, with ample opportunities to lead the team to success.”
“When Egypt participates in any tournament, it is undoubtedly among the favorites to win, being the team with the most victories in Africa, making it a perennial contender,” he added.
Highlighting the distinctive players in the Egyptian squad, Vingada singled out Mohamed Salah, describing him as a unique star.
He emphasized the team’s determination to secure the title, stating, “Egypt will strive diligently to clinch the championship and add it to their records.
Therefore, I hope luck is on the Pharaohs’ side for them to achieve victory.”
Vingada identified three key factors that could bring Egypt closer to the coveted African Cup: the remarkable coaching of Rui Vitoria, the presence of exceptional players like Mohamed Salah, and the team’s historical success in African competitions.
These elements, according to Vingada, position Egypt as a formidable force and a strong contender for the title.
As the anticipation builds for the kickoff of the tournament, fans eagerly await to witness whether the Pharaohs, under Rui Vitoria’s guidance, can secure another triumph and add to their illustrious football history in Africa.
