Egypt’s 2026 FIFA World Cup qualification delayed after stalemate with Burkina Faso
The Pharaohs of Egypt missed out on early qualification to the 2026 FIFA World Cup on Tuesday after a goalless draw with Burkina Faso.
The most successful African side locked horns with the Stallions today in a crucial Group A contest played at Stade du 4 Août in Ouagadougou.
Going into the game with 19 points, a win to amass all three points would have booked Egypt’s place in next year’s World Cup.
However, with Burkina Faso also chasing the World Cup dream, they put up a strong performance in the Round 8 encounter, shutting down the Egyptian attack for the full 90 minutes.
With the qualification for the Pharaohs delayed, they will hope to seal it in October when they resume for the final round of games in the qualifiers.
For now, Egypt finishes the September international break with 20 points, five more than Burkina Faso in second.
The only scenario where Egypt will miss out on qualification to the 2026 FIFA World Cup is if they lose both games against Djibouti and Guinea-Bissau in October.
