Barcelona have delivered an encouraging update on the fitness of promising Egyptian youngster Hamza Abdel Karim, with the forward said to be closing in on a return.

The 18-year-old talent, who joined FC Barcelona’s youth setup during the winter transfer window on loan from Al Ahly SC, had been sidelined with injury in recent weeks, raising concerns about his development at the Catalan club. Barcelona secured the deal with an option to make the move permanent for a reported €3 million, underlining their belief in his long-term potential.

However, in a significant twist, Barcelona Athletic spokesperson Pau Campana has now confirmed that Abdel Karim has completed his recovery and rejoined full training with the squad.

“Hamza Abdelkarim has recovered from his injury and is ready to participate with the team in Sunday’s match.” he said as quoted by Yalla Kora.

Despite that positive update, Campana stopped short of guaranteeing the youngster’s involvement, adding: “Although Hamza Abdelkarim has recovered, his participation in the match is not 100% certain.”

This cautious stance suggests Barcelona’s coaching staff are keen to avoid rushing the forward back into competitive action, especially given his importance to the club’s youth project.

According to Spanish outlet Sport, Abdel Karim has already returned to group training with Barcelona’s Juvenil A side, placing him back in contention for selection under coach Pol Planas. His availability comes as a welcome boost for the team as they prepare for their upcoming fixtures.

Before his injury setback, Abdel Karim had been steadily building a reputation within the club. The Egyptian striker impressed with his performances for Barcelona’s reserve and youth teams, earning praise from his coaches for his technical ability, movement, and attacking instinct. His rapid adaptation to Spanish football had also drawn attention from observers tracking emerging talents within La Masia.

Still under contract with Al Ahly until 2028, Abdel Karim remains one of Egypt’s most exciting young prospects. His current loan spell in Spain is viewed as a critical phase in his development, with Barcelona closely monitoring his progress before making a final decision on triggering the purchase clause.

For now, all eyes will be on Sunday’s match to see whether the young forward takes the next step in his comeback—or whether Barcelona opts for a more cautious approach in reintegrating one of their brightest emerging stars.
