Egyptian trio named in Club World Championship all-star team

Veszprem’s Egyptian contingent has been recognised after three players were selected in the all-star team for the Handball Club World Championship.

Ahmed Hesham “Dodo”, who plays for Veszprem, was joined in the selection by Al Ahly’s Mohamed Hesham “Mody” and Zamalek’s Youssef Amr.

The all-star line-up was:

– Emil Nielsen (Veszprem) – Ahmed Hesham (Veszprem) – Ludovic Fabregas (Barcelona) – Yanis Lenne (Veszprem) – Jan Baruffet (Barcelona) – Mohamed Hesham (Al Ahly) – Youssef Amr (Zamalek) – Sergi Hernandez (Barcelona)

Veszprem secured the title by beating Barcelona 42-33 in the final, with Yahia Omar playing for the Hungarian side and helping them complete their successful campaign.

Yahia’s brother, Seif El-Deraa, plays for Barcelona.

The Veszprem squad also includes four Egyptian players: Yahia Omar, Ahmed Hesham “Dodo”, Ali Zein and Ahmed Adel “Dola”. The team is managed by Spain’s Javier Pascual, who also coaches the Egypt national team.

The victory was Veszprem’s second Club World Championship title. Their first came in 2024, when Yahia Omar was also part of the squad and was the only Egyptian player in the team.

Barcelona won the competition in 2025, with Seif El-Deraa in their squad. Although he was not the team captain at the time, his team-mates asked him to lift the trophy because the tournament was being held in Egypt.

This time, Yahia Omar will raise the trophy as Veszprem captain.

Danish goalkeeper Emil Nielsen was named player of the match. Nielsen previously played for Barcelona before moving to Veszprem.

Veszprem’s Hugo Descat finished as the game’s leading scorer with 10 goals.

The final result completed the competition’s medal standings. Veszprem took gold, Barcelona won silver, Al Ahly claimed bronze and Zamalek finished fourth.
