Former Zamalek SC midfielder Mohamed Abou El-Ela believes the battle for the Egyptian Premier League crown has become increasingly intense, with the top sides closely matched and regularly taking points off one another.

Speaking on the “Number One” programme on CBC with journalist Mohamed Shabana, Abou El-Ela said Zamalek SC have re-emerged as serious contenders after overcoming a difficult spell caused by internal challenges.

He said the club’s resurgence has reignited excitement in the race for the title.

Looking ahead to Zamalek’s upcoming fixture against ENPPI SC, the former star warned that the encounter would be far from straightforward.

According to him, ENPPI are defensively organised and dangerous on the counter-attack, factors he believes will make the contest especially challenging for the White Knights.

Abou El-Ela also noted that many of the dropped points suffered by leading clubs such as Al Ahly SC, Zamalek SC and Pyramids FC have come against teams considered outsiders, making every remaining fixture crucial in the closing stages of the season.

He added that Zamalek’s players are highly motivated to secure victory and remain at the summit, with every point now carrying major significance.

Abou El-Ela further highlighted the importance of fan support, saying the presence of supporters has played a vital role in inspiring the team and creating a special atmosphere throughout the campaign.

He concluded by suggesting that the clash against ENPPI SC could prove even more important than the traditional showdown with Al Ahly SC, as victory would hand Zamalek a major boost in the title race while increasing pressure on their rivals before the decisive rounds.
