Egyptian Super Cup 2026: UAE hosting decision remains unresolved as tournament could be delayed

The venue and date for the 2026 Egyptian Super Cup have yet to be confirmed, with the tournament potentially being moved to the end of December or the beginning of January 2027.

FilGoal.com understands that the UAE Football Association apologised several months ago for being unable to host the competition. However, that decision is not final and the United Arab Emirates remains under consideration as a possible host.

The Egyptian Football Association is therefore waiting for the host country to be decided before setting a confirmed date. The tournament could be postponed until the end of December or early January as a result.

There is no plan to abandon the four-team format and return to the previous system, in which the Egyptian Super Cup was contested only between the champions of the league and the Egypt Cup.

The competition has been staged only in Egypt and the United Arab Emirates since it was introduced in the 2001-02 season. The UAE has hosted nine previous editions, including the last five in succession.

The most recent three tournaments have featured four teams: the league champions, Egypt Cup winners, Egyptian League Cup winners and a fourth side selected through a golden-card invitation.

Zamalek will enter the 2026 edition as league champions, while Pyramids will represent the Egypt Cup and Al Masry will take part as Egyptian League Cup winners. The fourth team has not been invited through the golden-card system.

Al Ahly are the holders after winning last season’s tournament in the UAE. They beat Zamalek 2-0 in the final in Abu Dhabi, with Ceramica Cleopatra finishing third and Pyramids fourth.

The victory gave Al Ahly their 16th Egyptian Super Cup title, with eight of those triumphs coming against Zamalek. It was also their fifth consecutive success in the competition.

Al Ahly have won all three editions played under the current four-team format, completing the tournament with a perfect record each time.
