Egyptian forward Omar Elkholy has officially joined Gulf United, a rising club in the United Arab Emirates’ Division One, as a free agent. The 27-year-old, who last played for Cyprus’ Achyronas-Onisilos FC, brings his extensive international experience to the UAE as Gulf United aim to build on their recent successes.

Elkholy, who was born in Saudi Arabia, has had a diverse footballing journey, having previously played in Sweden and the United States.

His time in Cyprus saw him working under former Bayern Munich left-back Danijel Pranjić, an experience that further honed his skills on the European stage.

The move to Gulf United comes at a critical time for both the player and the club.

Gulf United, a team on the rise, have achieved consecutive promotions in the UAE football pyramid.

Their ascent has been spearheaded by former Newcastle United defender Steven Taylor, who now serves as the club’s head coach.

Under Taylor’s leadership, the club has made significant strides, including hosting a friendly match with Premier League side Newcastle United in March 2022.

Gulf United is hoping Elkholy’s arrival will provide a much-needed boost as they look to challenge for a third successive promotion.

The club currently sits on just one point from their opening two matches of the season, making Elkholy’s addition to the squad timely as they seek to climb the table.

Speaking about his move, Elkholy expressed excitement at joining a team with such ambition and potential.

His journey across multiple countries and leagues has shaped him into a versatile player, and Gulf United are confident his experience will prove valuable as they push for success in the competitive UAE Division One.

While Gulf United have enjoyed a meteoric rise in recent seasons, the challenge of securing promotion will require consistency and resilience.

Elkholy’s signing signals the club’s intent to strengthen its squad with experienced international talent to achieve their goal.

With the season still in its early stages, Gulf United will look to quickly regain their form and build momentum.

Elkholy’s presence on the pitch is expected to enhance the team’s attacking options, and fans are eager to see how the Egyptian striker integrates into the squad as they pursue their promotion ambitions.
