The Egyptian Ministry of Youth and Sports has distanced itself from any involvement in the contract between Al Ahly and footballer Ahmed Mostafa Zizo, stating clearly that such matters fall outside its jurisdiction.
Mohammed Al-Shazly, the ministry’s spokesman, explained during a televised interview that the ministry plays no role in contract negotiations or player agreements.
“The fund for the welfare of young people has nothing to do with the Ministry of Sports. It was established by a presidential decree, and has nothing to do with sports, and specializes in youth activities.” Al-Shazly said.
“The Ministry of Sports does not receive any financial ratios of the contracts of players, and the ministry does not have the right to request to see any official contract.”
“The percentages collected from the players’ contracts go to the budget of the Football Association…”
He further clarified that neither the ministry nor other authorities requested to examine Zizo’s paperwork, and said the situation presented no crisis.
Al-Shazly concluded that Minister Ashraf Sobhi was merely responding to unfounded claims regarding favoritism.
