Egyptian referee crew to officiate opening of Africa Cup of Nations

An entirely Egyptian refereeing team has been appointed to oversee the kickoff of the 2023 Africa Cup of Nations between Ivory Coast and Guinea-Bissau.

Amin Omar has been selected to officiate the opening match, with Mahmoud Abu Elregal and Ahmed Hossam as assistant referees, as reported by FilGoal.com.

Additionally, Mohamed Marouf will serve as the fourth official.

Handling the Video Assistant Referee (VAR) duties will be Mahmoud Ashour, assisted by Mahmoud Elbana.

Seven Egyptian referees, including Amin Omar, Mahmoud Abu Elregal, Ahmed Hossam Taha, Mahmoud Ashour, and Mohamed Marouf, are part of the officiating crew for the Africa Cup of Nations 2023.

Notably, Mohamed Adel has been included in the final list of referees despite not being initially named in the tournament’s provisional list, as announced by the Egyptian Football Association.

The list also sees Mahmoud Elbana transition from the field referees’ list in the provisional lineup to a role in VAR for the final selection.

The Africa Cup of Nations kicks off tomorrow, Saturday, with the first match scheduled at 10:00 PM Cairo time.

The opening encounter will feature Ivory Coast and Guinea-Bissau in Group A alongside Equatorial Guinea and Nigeria.

Meanwhile, Egypt finds itself in Group B alongside Ghana, Mozambique, and Cape Verde.

The prestigious tournament promises thrilling matches as teams from across the continent vie for the coveted title.

The Egyptian referee team is poised to uphold the highest standards of officiating in this prestigious football competition.
