The Egyptian Premier League will start its 2026-27 season on Friday, 21 August 2026, with 20 clubs competing under a revised format that will eventually reduce the number of teams in the top flight.
The opening phase will run until 20 February 2027, with every side playing 19 matches for a total of 190 fixtures. The league’s final phase is scheduled to begin on Monday, 8 March 2027, and the competition is expected to conclude in May 2027.
Matches will normally be played at 17:00 and 20:00 Egypt time. During Ramadan, kick-offs will move to 21:30 to take account of iftar and supporters attending matches.
The Egyptian Clubs Association has divided the final phase into two groups. The top six teams from the opening stage will enter a championship group, playing each other home and away in 15 matches. The group will decide the league champions and the clubs qualifying for the CAF Champions League and CAF Confederation Cup.
The remaining 14 teams, placed from seventh to 20th, will form a relegation group. They will contest 91 matches as they attempt to avoid demotion to the professional league.
Four clubs will be relegated at the end of the season, while only three teams will be promoted from the second tier. As a result, the 2027-28 Egyptian Premier League will contain 19 teams as part of a gradual reduction in the number of clubs.
Clubs and recent title race

الاسماعيلي will miss the current edition for only the second time in their history and for the first time in 68 years. Their previous relegation came in 1957-58, the first time the club had dropped out of the top division.
The early standings listed in the schedule place الاهلي first, followed by بيراميدز and الزمالك. سيراميكا كليوباترا, مودرن سبورت and الاتحاد occupy the next three positions, with المقاولون العرب, السويس بتروجيت, القناة and الجيش also among the teams listed above the relegation places.
