Egyptian physiotherapist Omar Mahgoub joins Arsenal academy

Egyptian doctor Omar Mahgoub has joined Arsenal as a physiotherapy specialist within the club’s academy.

Mahgoub announced the move on Instagram, confirming that he will begin a new stage of his career with the Premier League club.

“I am pleased to announce that I have joined Arsenal as a physiotherapist in the academy,” he wrote.

He added: “I am proud to belong to the club, its culture and the Arsenal way. I am very much looking forward to working with a wonderful team while continuing to develop my career in sports physiotherapy. I am excited about this enjoyable journey.”

Mahgoub previously worked at another English club, Brentford, where he spent the past two seasons.

In a message posted on LinkedIn, he thanked Brentford as he confirmed his departure and move to Arsenal.

“As every chapter begins, another chapter comes to an end. I would also like to express my sincere thanks to everyone at Brentford for making the past two seasons unforgettable,” Mahgoub wrote.

“It was an honour to be part of the club, and I am extremely grateful to have worked alongside this wonderful and supportive team while continuing to grow both personally and professionally.”

His move to Arsenal comes as the club prepares for a busy period of pre-season fixtures before the start of the new campaign.

Arsenal are due to face Spanish side Real Betis in Dublin, Ireland, on Wednesday. They will then play Borussia Dortmund on 9 August before meeting Italian club Como three days later.

Mikel Arteta’s side will begin their competitive season against Manchester City on 16 August in the Community Shield.

Arsenal will then start their title defence with an away match against Bournemouth on 21 August.

Mahgoub’s appointment adds an Egyptian member to the medical and performance staff working with Arsenal’s academy. His previous experience at Brentford means he has already worked within the English football system before taking up his new role in north London.

His comments focused on his appreciation for Brentford and his enthusiasm about joining Arsenal, where he will support players within the academy while continuing his development in sports physiotherapy.

Arsenal’s immediate attention, meanwhile, is on their sequence of pre-season matches against Real Betis, Borussia Dortmund and Como. Those fixtures will come before the Community Shield meeting with Manchester City and the opening match of their title defence against Bournemouth.
