Egyptian midfielder Hamdy Fathy is leaving Al Ahly following the club’s exit from the 2025 FIFA Club World Cup.
Al Ahly secured the services of the midfielder from Al-Wakrah SC specifically for the Club World Cup in the United States of America.
Despite his strong performance in the three group games, Al Ahly could not advance to the knockout stage.
A pulsating 4-4 draw against FC Porto on Monday night confirmed the elimination of the Egyptian club.
Speaking after the game, Hamdy Fathy confirmed that he will leave Al Ahly and return to his parent club, Al-Wakrah SC.
“What I know from Al Wakrah Club is that the Porto match will be my last with Al Ahly.
“We feel sad and we hoped to advance to the round of 16, but we were not lucky,” Fathy said.
Despite the inability to progress to the Round of 16, Al Ahly made Africa proud with their performances.
The team dominated MLS side Inter Miami in their first game, which ended in a goalless draw.
After losing to Brazilian side Palmeiras in their second match, Al Ahly put up a strong performance against FC Porto, scoring four goals in that match.
