Egyptian midfielder Hamdi Fathi poised to join Pyramids FC as Al Wakrah approves transfer offer

Hamdi Fathi

Egyptian midfielder Hamdi Fathi is on the verge of completing a move to Pyramids FC, following Al Wakrah’s acceptance in principle of a $1.2 million offer from the Cairo-based club.

The 30-year-old has made clear his intention to return to the Egyptian Premier League, a decision that reportedly played a key role in Al Wakrah’s willingness to sanction the deal.

A final meeting between Fathi and club officials is expected to take place within hours to settle the remaining financial terms, including payment structure and bonuses.

Should both parties reach a consensus, the contract signing is likely to follow shortly after.

Fathi joined Al Wakrah in July 2023 on a four-year deal, embarking on a new chapter in his career after a successful stint with Al Ahly SC.

During his time in Qatar, he featured prominently in the Qatar Stars League and the Emir Cup, and was part of the squad that lifted the Qatar Cup.

He also gained valuable experience in the Asian Champions League and was briefly loaned back to Al Ahly to take part in the FIFA Club World Cup.

Despite only spending a single season with Al Wakrah, Fathi’s impact on the pitch was widely acknowledged.

His leadership and composure in midfield proved instrumental in several key matches, solidifying his reputation as a dependable and experienced campaigner.

A product of Egypt’s domestic league system, Fathi began his professional journey with Ala’ab Damanhour before moving on to ENPPI SC and Petrojet.

However, it was at Al Ahly SC where he truly came into his own, earning a regular starting role and contributing to numerous domestic and continental triumphs.

His performances in Cairo cemented his place in the Egyptian national team setup, and he has since accumulated a wealth of international experience.

Pyramids FC, one of Egypt’s rising football powerhouses, have been keen to bolster their midfield as they prepare for a demanding season both in the Egyptian Premier League and continental competitions.

The signing of Hamdi Fathi would mark a significant coup for the club, adding depth, experience, and tactical intelligence to their squad.

Fathi’s potential return to Egyptian football is seen as a homecoming by many fans and analysts, who believe his presence could offer much-needed balance and leadership in Pyramids FC’s midfield.

The club’s management is reportedly confident that the deal will be finalised without major complications.

While both clubs have yet to issue an official confirmation, the agreement between Al Wakrah and Pyramids FC appears to be in its final stages.

Should the move go through, it would mark another milestone in Hamdi Fathi’s career, bringing him back to the domestic spotlight where he first made his name.

With the summer transfer window in full swing, the acquisition of a player of Fathi’s calibre could signal Pyramids FC’s intentions to mount a serious challenge for both domestic honours and continental glory in the upcoming season.
