Egyptian powerhouse Al Ahly have three big problems to face in their chase for Jose Riveiro for the vacant coaching job.
Al Ahly is currently without a substantive coach following the sacking of Marcel Koller few weeks ago. Koller was shown the exit door after failing to snap CAF Champions League final spot.
Riveiro remains the frontrunner for Al Ahly’s coaching job, but the Egyptian powerhouse faces challenges in landing the outgoing Orlando Pirates gaffer.
The Spanish trainer played his last game for Orlando Pirates in the South African Premier League on Tuesday as the side thumped their Golden Arrows 3-0 in a highly competitive clash.
Al Ahly will not rush to appoint Riveiro as head coach. However, the club will require time to settle several minor disagreements with the coach, none of which are financial in nature.
Per reports the main sticking points concern the Spaniard’s assistants, but could be resolved swiftly.
Speaking to Sport FM, the former Al Ahly star Ahmed Shobair said, “Riveiro is one of the candidates for the Al Ahly manager position and he is the frontrunner, but there are certain issues separating him from taking the job. There are three disagreements between Al Ahly and Riveiro, and none of them are about finances.
One disagreement was resolved yesterday, while two remain—these are related to the assistants and authority within the staff. These issues can be settled,”
