Egyptian giants Al Ahly backs under-fire coach Jose Riveiro amid Pitso Mosimane’s links

Egyptian powerhouse Al Ahly have denied widespread claims about talks with South African tactician Pitso Mosimane to replace under-fire José Ribeiro.

The Spanish tactician, who joined the Egyptian giants this summer has yet to make a meaningful impact at the club, accumulating just five points from the initial three matches in the Premier League.

Riveiro’s fate has been shrouded in doubt due to the team’s fluctuating results in the current campaign. Since joining the club, Al Ahly has recorded just a win in six matches under the former Orlando Pirates coach, raising concerns about his future.

Despite the club’s poor run, Al Ahly have moved to deny reports linking Pitso Mosimane back to the club.

Africasoccer.com understands that Mosimane’s talks to return to lead the team are completely untrue as the club expresses confidence in Riveiro.

“Mosimane’s page has been closed. He is a very great coach, but Al-Ahly has complete confidence in Jose Ribeiro, the current coach.”

He explained: “We have not negotiated with any coach or requested nominations because we have complete confidence in Ribeiro, and we are not responsible for what is being said by coaching agents.” A source to the club has revealed.

Pitso Mosimane, who won the CAF Champions League win Al Ahly is currently unattached.
