Trezeguet wins CAF Champions League top scorer

Egyptian international Mahmoud Hassan Trezeguet has been officially crowned the top scorer of the 2025–26 CAF Champions League season, marking a major individual milestone in an otherwise disappointing continental campaign for Al Ahly.

The forward finished the tournament as the leading scorer with six goals, underlining his consistency and sharpness in front of goal even as Al Ahly were eliminated at the quarter-final stage by Tunisian giants Espérance Sportive de Tunis.

Despite the team’s early exit from the competition, Trezeguet’s individual brilliance stood out across the campaign, as he delivered decisive performances in both the group and knockout phases.

His goals came in nine appearances, with notable contributions against several of the continent’s strongest sides. He netted twice against JS Kabylie and once against FAR Rabat, before continuing his scoring form with a brace against Young Africans of Tanzania.

He rounded off his campaign with a crucial strike against Espérance, highlighting his ability to deliver in high-pressure matches even against elite opposition.

The CAF Champions League top scorer award—calculated from the group stage onwards—serves as recognition of his sustained attacking impact throughout the tournament, rather than just isolated performances.

For Al Ahly, however, Trezeguet’s achievement offers only partial consolation. The club had entered the competition with ambitions of continental dominance but ultimately fell short of expectations after their elimination in the last eight.

Still, the Egyptian forward’s form provides a strong individual highlight in a season marked by inconsistency for the Cairo giants, and reinforces his importance as one of the team’s key attacking leaders moving forward.

Trezeguet’s success also arrives at a crucial time in his career, as he continues to re-establish himself as a decisive figure both domestically and in African competitions. His ability to produce goals in key fixtures has once again underlined his reputation as a player for big moments.

While Al Ahly will now turn attention to rebuilding and preparing for the next campaign, Trezeguet’s Golden Boot-winning performance ensures his name remains among the standout performers of the continent’s premier club competition.
