Omar Marmoush, the rising star of the Egyptian national team and Eintracht Frankfurt in the German Bundesliga, has shared heartfelt sentiments about his national teammates, highlighting the influence of iconic figures like Mohamed Abou Treika.
In an exclusive interview with Saif Zaher, Marmoush delivered a message to his colleague Mahmoud Hassan Trézéguet, currently playing for Trabzonspor in the Turkish league.
Marmoush expressed his admiration for the legendary generation of players, including Abou Treika, Mohamed Zidane, Hossam Ghaly, and Ahmed Mido.
He stated, “The era of Abou Treika, Zidane, Shoukry, and Mido was the strongest.
I wished to play alongside these stars, and the current generation reminds us of the same feeling because we work as one man.”
The Egyptian forward pointed out a key advantage in the current squad, emphasizing the motivational boost provided by the presence of Mohamed Salah.
He remarked, “Our biggest advantage in the current generation is having a player of Mohamed Salah’s caliber.
It motivates us immensely.
I don’t know the secret behind the previous generation’s success in tournaments, but the spirit was crucial, and now we have the same spirit.”
When asked about Mahmoud Hassan Trézéguet, Marmoush highlighted the friendly competition between them as they play in similar positions.
He added, “After Mohamed Salah, Trézéguet is the closest player to me.
Despite the constant competition as we play in the same position, he always guides and advises me like an elder brother.
When I joined the national team, he wasn’t there.”
As the Egyptian national team prepares for its second match in Group B of the 2024 Africa Cup of Nations against Ghana on January 18, Marmoush’s insights provide a glimpse into the camaraderie and mutual respect within the squad.
The interview captures the essence of unity and aspiration in the current generation of Egyptian football.
