Egyptian Football Association have decided to keep head coach Hossam Hassan ahead of the 2026 World Cup tournament to be held in the USA, Canada and Mexico.
The former Egyptian star led the Pharaohs to fourth place in the continental tournament after succumbing to a 4-2 penalty shootouts defeat to Nigeria on Saturday, at the 2025 Africa Cup of Nations in Morocco following a pulsating goalless draw in the third-place clash.
Egypt, who are seven time winners of the AFCON reached the semi-finals but narrowly suffered defeat to Senegal.
Earlier reports suggested the Egyptian Football Association had decided to dismiss Hossam Hassan’s lead technical team after recent controversial statements regarding Morocco’s organization of the tournament.
But Mustafa Abu Zahra, a member of the Egyptian Football Association board has rubbished such report, insisting Hossam Hassan will continue to lead the national team as they gears up for the 2026 World Cup tournament.
“Hossam Hassan will continue to lead the Egyptian national team. He will be the national team coach in the 2026 World Cup, there is nothing to discuss.”” he told Egyptian channel “On Sport”.
The Egyptian national team is preparing to participate in the World Cup for the fourth time in history, competing in Group G with Belgium, Iran, and New Zealand.
The global showpiece will be held in the United States, Canada, and Mexico, between June 11 and July 19.
